2026: The State of the Art

January 10, 2026

The new year traditionally brings with it plans and goals for the coming year. My main goal is engagement. It has been my habit to spend time creating, occasionally posting in process and eventually a final picture then …. that’s it. This is the time to push myself beyond that and build a structure online that cultivates more engagement and a space for conversation and shared interests. I have made significant upgrades to my website including a new page for photography and the opportunity to subscribe to a newsletter and also any special announcements, discounts or giveaways. More on that later.

Let’s start with what is happening now. There are only two pieces still available and currently on display at Exhibit B Gallery in Souderton, PA, as part of the winter group show, running until the end of January. A huge thank you to the wonderful art collectors that purchased the other pieces and to Harry Boardman for putting together an awesome show. Also, opening today is Merged: A National Juried Exhibition of Collage & Assemblage at d’Art Center, a non-profit community art center located in Norfolk’s NEON District. Merged is an exhibition of original unique 2D and 3D collage and assemblage artworks that includes mediums specifically (but not limited to), found objects, recycled materials, paper, fiber, wood, and metal. If you are in the Norfolk, VA area, please visit. I have two pieces accepted into this show. It runs from Saturday, January 10th – Saturday, February 7th, 2026 with the opening reception, Thursday, January 15th, 5:30 – 7:30.

Also happening now, for a limited time, receive up to 40% off your order at INPRNT for prints and other items that are available in my shop. I have expanded the selection to include prints of original art, original photographs and selected vintage slides from the #mondaymorningslideshow. Which, btw, is now back thanks to a new slide and film scanner. Look for a new slide every Monday on my Instagram,@k67artsculpture. And while you’re there, check out my other Instagram page,@k67_camera_eye and give it a follow. This is my personal photography page. Photography has always been an interest of mine since high school in the mid-decades ago. I had the privilege and advantage of an expansive art department that included a darkroom. Though I don’t do any work in the darkroom now, I’m still attracted to analog film photography. I have recently acquired a 1929 Voightlander Bessa and a 1961 Polaroid J66 Land Camera that I converted to shoot 120 medium format film (that’s a post for another day) and it’s not uncommon for me to have a camera close at hand. More photo related discussion to come.

While the winter months are a little less comfortable in the studio, there are still a number of projects in the works. I’m participating in the 30/30 mini art mega challenge sponsored by Mini Mega Electric Gallery in Doylestown, PA. 30 small canvases with “Future” as the theme. One canvas a day for the month of January with the gallery exhibit in February. I will keep you posted. Taking up the majority of the space on the work table for the immediate “future” is a large mixed media piece (1950’s themed sci-fi) a had started last summer but put on hold while completing a couple of furniture projects. I’ll be posting more as that piece progresses.
